The village, built around a gothic church dating from 1473, is placed on a high plateau dominating the Viadene, the Aubrac and the Carladez.
The commune of Cantoin includes numerous dispersed hamlets scattered round about; each one has its own character, relics and treasures.

The castle of Cantoinet consists of a simple square tower. Outside, on the threshold, it is possible to make out a motto from the time of chivalry (14th century).
The Cantoinet quarry, open from the construction of the Sarrans dam (1918) still produces very hard gravel used for 30km around mainly on the roads.
Numerous sculpted 16th and 19th century sculpted crosses.

Vines, a ravishing hamlet, “Site Remarquable de France et d’Europe”, offers the walker an unbeatable view over the Sarrans lake.
Its reliquary in the 14th century gothic style chapel contains frgament of the True Cross.
There is a Museum of the Cabrette and Aubrac traditions (the cabrette is a local bagpipe).

At Severac-Bedene : a ruin of the former castle of Montvallat (14th century).
The base of the church dates from the 11th century. In the interior a strange font representing a wine grower.

Cissac- Chaniès

At Cissac-Chaniès: beautiful little isolated rural chapels.
